His debut on the ATP Tour came at the Croatian Open in 2012, when he defeated Juan-Martin Aranguren, Jose Anton Salazar Martin, and Adrian Menendez-Maceiras in the qualifying rounds to reach the main event for the first time.

Carlos Berlocq defeated him in the second round, 6–7(4–7), 6–4, 1–6, although in the first round, he defeated Paolo Lorenzi 7–5, 6–4.

At the 2018 French Open, Nick Kyrgios was forced to withdraw due to injury, and Trungelliti traveled from Barcelona to Paris to fill in for him.

When he finally made it to the clubhouse just before midnight to check in, his match was already arranged for the next morning. However, Trungelliti came out in four sets against Tomic at Roland Garros.
