She first gained public recognition at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, where she won two gold medals for Great Britain despite being the team’s youngest member at the age of 13.

Ellie Simmonds Professional Career
Simmonds was the eldest British athlete at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, swimming in the 50m, 100m, and 400m freestyle events and the 50m butterfly and the 200m Individual Medley. She won gold in the 100-meter and 400-meter freestyle competitions.
Simmonds duplicated her gold medal achievement by winning the 400m freestyle at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London on 1 September 2012, shaving five seconds off the World Record record.
Two days later, on 3 September, she won gold in the 200m Individual Medley, shattering the World Record she had achieved that morning in the qualifying round.
Ellie retained her gold medal in the 200m single sculls at the Rio Paralympics on 12 September 2016, setting a new record holder, the first under 3 minutes. Simmonds earned a bronze medal at the 2016 Paralympics in the 400m freestyle.
Simmonds has also won eight gold medals at the World Championships. She competes in the S6 disability division.
Simmonds announced her Paralympic retirement on 2 September 2021, after losing out on a medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
